An automaton is a mechanical object that is relatively self-operating after it has been set in motion. Since antiquity, people have desired to have devices to replace manpower for doing chores as well as having inanimate objects come to life. The result has been a development of machines that are exquisite in their artistry and ingenious in their mechanics. The presentation will include demonstrations of some of the finest automata form different time periods and cultures.
